Gregory Peanut Variety Description
U. S. Protected Variety
Can be sold only as a class of Certified seed
Gregory is a Virginia type peanut variety released by the North Carolina Agricultural Research Service. Its growth habit is intermediate between bunch and runner and has large seeds with pink testa. Gregory has larger pods and seeds than the largest Virginia type varieties currently available. Gregory was derived from a cross of NC 7 and NC 9. Gregory is similar to NC 7 in being susceptible to early leaf spot, Cylindrocladium black rot, Southern stem rot, and Sclerotinia blight. In comparison with NC 7, Gregory has more fancy size pods, more extra large kernels, fewer sound mature kernels, lower meat content, higher pod yield and higher value per acre.
