Hardy 2519 is a hard red winter wheat. It is a widely adapted, full season, medium height Virginia wheat with high yield potential. At boot stage plants are green in color and have flag leaves that are erect, twisted and waxy. Spikes are awned, inclined, mid-dense, tapering in shape and white in color at maturity Straw is yellow, glumes are white and long in length and medium in width. The hard red kernels are ovate in shape with rounded cheeks. Average test weights varied from 57.1 to 59.2 lb/bu. On the basis of milling and bread baking quality tests and assessments, it was judged to have acceptable overall quality for use in flour blends to manufacture bread products. Hardy 2519 is resistant or moderately resistant to powdery mildew, Barley Yellow Dwarf Virus, and leaf and glume blotch. It is widely adapted to the Mid-Atlantic Region.
