VT Pitman Wheat Variety Description

VT Pitman is a soft red winter wheat line that is high-yielding, early, short semi-dwarf primarily adapted to the mid-Atlantic region with high rest weight and moderate milling and baking quality.  VT Pitman expresses high levels of resistance to Fusarium Head Blight, leaf rust and Barley Yellow Dwarf Virus, as well as moderately high resistance to powdery mildew.  VT Pitman has tapered, awned blue-green heads, and erect twisted waxy green flag leaf, yellow anthers, yellow straw, and white chaff. Mean head emergence in Virginia is average similar to SY Viper, one day earlier than Hillard, and three days earlier than Shirley.
