SH7200 (Southern Harvest) Wheat Variety Description

U. S. Variety Protection Applied For

SH7200 (Southern Harvest) red winter wheat line is uniquely different from all known cultivars among which it has been tested in common trials.  It is a broadly adapted, high yielding, early heading, medium height, soft red winter wheat.  Foliage and spikes are blue-green in color, and spikes are awned and slightly tapering to strap in shape.  Mature plant height of SH7200 varied from 34 to 38 inches on average.  It has exhibited milling and baking qualities that are intermediate to those of Shirley.  Flour of SH7200 likely would be more suitable than that of Shirley for making crackers and other products requiring gluten strength as well as pastries.    It is moderately resistant to powdery mildew,  leaf rust, and stripe rust.   It is susceptible to stem rust.
